ルイス・キャロルの『不思議の国のアリス』について、様々な側面からその魅力に迫る興味深い展覧会。
ロンドンのヴィクトリア＆アルバート美術館で行われた展覧会を、再構成して開催された。
最初のコーナーでは、ルイス・キャロルがこの本を書くに至った経緯、当時のヴィクトリア朝の社会の様子、『不思議の国のアリス』の初版本などが展示されていた。
その後は、『不思議の国のアリス』を元に製作された舞台や有名なディズニーのアニメ映画についての資料、この本にインスパイアされたアーティストの作品、ドレスや衣装などが紹介されていた。
ルイス・キャロルは、本の出版に当たって挿絵がとても重要であると考えて、ジョン・テニエルが選ばれた。
そして、その素晴らしい挿絵は、その後に多くの画家やイラストレーターたちにとって”高い基準”となった。
この『不思議の国のアリス』という作品は、最初からビジュアルな作品として作られて、それがこの展覧会に見られるような、その後の壮大な空想世界を生み出すことになったのだろう。
An interesting exhibition about Lewis Carroll's "Alice in Wonderland" that explores its charm from various aspects.
The exhibition was reorganized and held at the Victoria & Albert Museum in London.
In the first corner, the story of how Lewis Carroll came to write this book, the state of Victorian society at that time, and the first edition of "Alice in Wonderland" were exhibited.
After that, materials about the stage and famous Disney animated films based on "Alice in Wonderland", works of artists inspired by this book, dresses and costumes were introduced.
Lewis Carroll chose John Tenniel because he thought illustrations were very important in publishing the book.
And that wonderful illustration has since become a "high standard" for many painters and illustrators.
This work, "Alice in Wonderland," was created as a visual work from the beginning, and it would have created the magnificent fantasy world that followed, as seen in this exhibition.
