ヴァロットン 黒と白（三菱一号館美術館） Felix Vallotton, Noir et Blanc (Mitsubishi Ichigokan Museum)

 

ヴァロットンと言えば、ミステリアスな雰囲気の油絵で知られるが、スイス出身のヴァロットンがパリでその名が知られるようになったのは、モノクロの木版画によってだった。

そうしたヴァロットンの版画作品を中心に展示した、ユニークな企画の展覧会。

当時の有名人たちの肖像を描いた版画もあったが、多くのヴァロットンの作品は、当時の社会の状況が時にシニカルに、時にユーモアを持って描かれている。

1898年に限定30部で出版された『アンティミテ』という版画集には、密会する男女の姿やその心理状態までが、黒と白のコントラストで描かれていて、ヴァロットンの版画作品の真骨頂が表れているようだった。

他にも、ロートレック、ドニ、ボナールら同時代の画家たちの版画作品も展示されていて、ヴァロットンとの違いを見ることができて、興味深かった。
