The Blue Period and Beyond (Pole Museum of Art)

Many Picasso exhibitions were held this year. The last thing I visited was this exhibition at the Pola Museum of Art.

Despite the title Blue Period, the works on display were from his early years in Barcelona to his later years.

The early works represented by the Blue Period were drawn on top of other previously drawn works behind them, and the results of such research were also exhibited, so the exhibition "Beyond the Blue Period" It seems to have become the name of the company.

This exhibition was jointly held by the Pola Museum of Art and the Hiroshima Museum of Art, and many of the exhibits were from those two museums, but there were also works from the Ohara Museum of Art, the Tokyo Station Gallery, the Picasso Museum in Barcelona, and the Museum of Catalunya. was exhibited.

The painter Picasso is by no means my favorite painter, but when there is an exhibition, I usually visit the venue.

Among his works, I like the early sultanbanks and black engravings of bullfights.

When Picasso was young, he painted pictures of poor parents and children in his blue days, and depicted wandering itinerant performers such as Sultanbanke, and had sympathy for those poor and oppressed people.

But after his success in Paris, he seems to have lost his youthful spirit, although he has works such as Guernica.

Did Picasso forget his sympathy for the poor after gaining enormous wealth? Was he, or did he feel sorry in his heart?

Shiomi Mieko + FLUXUS (TOKI-NO-WASUREMONO)

Works by Mieko Shiomi, who was active as a member of Fluxus, and other members of Fluxus were on display. Speaking of people from Fluxus from Japan, the name recognition of Yoko Ono is overwhelming. This was the first time I had seen Mieko Shiomi's work as a whole, but she had many unique works that were on a par with Yoko Ono, and it was worth seeing. Her idea of using the entire world as a stage, sending messages from various places to perform events and sharing the results, is very Fluxus-like. Also unique were t...

A special exhibition of the Makie collection of the Nezu Museum. There are various kinds of crafts in maki-e, but this time, maki-e inkstone cases, sutra boxes, inrō, wedding ceremony items, etc. were on display. The highlight was the gorgeous inkstone case full of important works of art. Scenes sung in ancient and modern waka poetry collections, as well as the natural beauty of Japan, were expressed with amazing techniques using gold powder, and small worlds that never got tired of being seen were drawn on each maki-e inkstone box. The Hanashirakawa Mak...

Yasuyuki "TAIKO" Inoue (Museum of Contemporary Art, Tokyo)

A retrospective exhibition commemorating the 100th anniversary of the birth of Yasuyuki Inoe, a special effects art director of the movie. Inoue was born in Fukuoka in 1922, served as a soldier on the Chinese mainland during World War II, and lost his left foot in battle. After the war, he studied design and design at Nihon University College of Art under Bauhaus graduate Takeshi Yamawaki, and then under the direction of Tsuburaya, he was in charge of special art for the movie Godzilla, and after that he mastered the path. At the venue, storyboards, models, design materials, etc. of the movi...
